Experimenting with Augmented Reality

I’ve been playing around with Augmented Reality (“AR”). I’d like to offer the option to preview any of the images I have available for order, on your wall, at home. Currently, I’ve only worked with formats that are compatible with Apple devices. Once I get the Apple compatibility dialed in, I’ll start working on Android. Then I’ll need to incorporate some code that determines with format to feed to each viewer based on the device they hold.

I could use some help testing the Apple AR quicklook.

Check Compatibility

First make sure you are viewing this post from a from a supported device.

The experience is designed to anchor the image to a wall. While standing in front of a well-lit wall where you might hang a photograph, tap on the image below. I find if you have a wall that already has some art on it, the device does a better job of detecting your wall.

Follow the onscreen instructions. Once the AR experience detects an “anchor” (your wall) it will automatically insert the photo into real world space . Once the image is placed on the wall, you can use your fingers to move the image around the wall and rotate or resize. If the image is initially inserted somewhere other than the general space you intend, you pan over to it, “grab” it with your fingers, and pan back to the space where you want to “hang” the photograph

Help me test Augmented Reality!

I’d love some feedback on your experience. Drop a comment below and let me know:

  1. Was the image clear and bright enough?
  2. Were the above instructions adequate?
  3. Was your device able to recognize your wall?
  4. What was your overall experience?

Thanks!

  1. I’ve had success with this AR experience using my iPhone 11 and 2018 iPad Pro. Anyone having any issues?
